Chiropractic is a scientific, medical, and creative approach to wellness. It emphasizes the importance of how the muscles, nerves, joints, organs, and mental state all work together to create health. The body naturally aims to achieve a state called “homeostatic equilibrium” through the brain and spinal nerves, which means that every cell in your body is genetically programmed to regulate itself and find stability within its environment; in other words, your body is always trying to stay healthy.
Our modern lifestyles have a way to throw this balance off and effect our health, resulting in possible symptoms such as pain, stiffness, tension, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, organ dysfunction, mental fog and more. Stress alone leads to more diseases than science previously understood years ago.
Chiropractic adjustments are medical techniques used to reset the nervous system, which controls the entire body. Adjustments can reduce pain, swelling, stiffness in joints and muscles, improving overall movement. Adjustments also remove painful pressure from nerves, have been shown to boost the immune system, and can help and improve specific organ function. The technique involves using the Dr.’s hands, and sometimes special tools, to gently, yet specifically, stretch muscles, nerves, and joints to create a release of pressure. Often times a “popping” or “cracking” sound is heard and felt by the patient. It can be a strange and intimidating experience for patients new to Chiropractic, but, this sound is simply the releasing of air pressure that has built up inside a stiff and painful joint. Essentially, it’s the popping of a gas bubble of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), the same toxic gas you exhale.
Dr. Dawn Runge, DC, holds a Doctor of Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition from Logan University in Chesterfield, Missouri; just outside Dr. Dawn’s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
Before Chiropractic school, she worked in experiential and Public Relations in highly stressful and corporate climates. She began focussing on her own fitness and wellbeing and, after entering a fitness competition and feeling her vitality grow with exercise and healthy food, she sought out a field where she could help people in pain, aid in the prevention of injury related surgeries, and reduce the need for patient’s dependence on serious pain medication. Chiropractic soon became a passion to share with others.
Dr. Dawn gently and sensitively combine techniques from yoga, massage therapy, physical therapy, nutrition, stress management, meditation, home exercises and Chiropractic adjustments to help the body, and the mind, find a healthy balance to improve the quality of your life.
Allow Dr. Dawn guide you through this transformational process of self-discovery by helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, of how your body works and moves towards its natural balance of total health.
